Harmony of Seasons 四时之书
A bilingual book featuring original binding designed and crafted by myself. The left section adopts a scroll format referencing "dragon scale binding," while the right section comprises the main book with calendar inserts. This book serves as an introduction to the 24 solar terms, acting as a comprehensive lifestyle guide. Each chapter focuses on a specific solar term, detailing its phenological characteristics, recommended activities, and those best avoided on that particular day. You can reference this book to adjust your daily routines, dietary choices, and behaviors, aligning with the natural rhythms of the 24 solar terms to promote overall well-being and harmony with nature. Home/How Do I Define Home?
In response to the question, “How do you define home?” this book explores the intersection of aroma and memories, known as the Proust Effect. A quote from *Memory and Impression* by Shi Tiesheng runs throughout, and the yellowed pages with fragments of memories evoke the sensation of vague recollections triggered by a familiar scent. I designed the layout and cover in InDesign and experimented with an innovative binding method to enhance this poetic sensory experience. Click to see details.
Brunch, Bilingual Posters
Honored to be invited to share the poster series as a guest speaker at TypeThursdayNYC.
This series of bilingual posters explores the relationship between Western and Chinese breakfast and brunch cultures through painting and type design. I created original watercolor paintings depicting foods served in Shanghai's breakfast restaurants and brunch cafes, capturing cross-cultural influences. A custom typeface was developed, blending Chinese phrases with English words of similar meaning, and integrated into the final design. Using typography, layout, and visual storytelling techniques in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, the posters highlight cultural intersections through a vibrant and cohesive design. Quadrant International Art Association Graphics Design
As a volunteer designer, designed the promotional bilingual brochure sent to the Chinese Embassy in the United States and other art associations for collaboration, showcasing the non-profit organization’s mission to promote Chinese performing arts on an international stage. Created a logo that integrates elements of Chinese performing arts and international collaboration, representing the organization’s vision effectively and artistically. Collaborated with team members to ensure the design materials align with the association’s cultural and artistic objectives. Proof of volunteer can be provided upon request.
Manhattan Collection
This project is a series of conceptual booklets that personify New York City’s avenues, presenting each as if in an interview or casual chat. Each booklet’s dimensions and typography were customized in Adobe InDesign and refined through test printing to reflect the distinct character of each avenue. A catalog was also designed to showcase the series, containing photos, dimensions, citations, and personality profiles for each avenue, serving as a content guide. This project employs creative layout, typography, and publication design skills to enhance the visual storytelling experience. Click to see details.
Blossoms in Time 观花知时节
Illustrations for the “Scroll” of the book “Harmony of Seasons” depicting flowers symbolizing the solar terms. Hands are arranged in a circular formation to represent the progression of the solar terms; in each illustration, the hand indicates the direction of the Big Dipper corresponding to the respective solar term. Sky Map: Solar Eclipse
This double-sided infographic poster presents different aspects of a solar eclipse on each side, making scientific information easy and engaging to read. I conducted thorough research to organize complex details into a clear, enjoyable format, designing each side to provide an accessible view of the solar eclipse phenomenon. Click to see details.
Women, Magazine Cover
These magazine covers address the objectification of women and gender inequality, inspired by the aesthetic of 1950s magazines. Using an ironic tone, the covers highlight social issues like the commodification of women, domestic violence, and societal expectations. I painted the illustrations in Adobe Photoshop and created three central covers: *Simple Money* critiques the financial exploitation of women, *Femme* exposes the pressure to hide domestic violence scars, and *Daily Chef* reveals the consumption of women as objects of pleasure.
